About

What is Sozo?

SOZO is a gentle, effective, inner healing ministry.

Its aim is to get to the root of blockages in our relationship to God. To allow him to reveal how past wounds and unconsciously held beliefs  have affected us. To enable us to walk in the freedom we were created for. To be free to make good choices and live in a proper dependence on our creator.

The word Sozo is a Greek word which is translated in the New Testament sometimes as healed, sometimes as saved, and at other times delivered, with the inference of being made whole. It is the name chosen to describe a process developed by Bethel Church, Redding, California to enable people to have a closer connection to God.

What to expect:

A SOZO is typically offered by a two membered team of trained volunteers in one or more sessions which last for between 1 ½ to 2 ½ hours.  The team, which may include men and women, facilitate interaction with God the Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit in a safe, confidential and honouring environment.

The Team

The team at Bethel Sozo Edinburgh are all members of Community Church Edinburgh. They are trained volunteers, answerable to the leadership of the church. We have ongoing supervision from the Director of Bethel Sozo Scotland, Alison Lennie and are committed to continued training and development.

The team is lead by Lesley Helfer, who trained initially with Alison Lennie and then with Dawna Desilva and Teresa Liebscher from Bethel Church when they visited Scotland. After setting up a small team to use Sozo tools within the CCE context she also worked with Gaynor Martin at the Eric Liddle Centre until Gaynor moved away from Edinburgh and passed the baton of Bethel Sozo Edinburgh to Community Church Edinburgh .

Confidentiality

Sozo is not counselling, but in a similar way we take confidentiality very seriously. We will not discuss the content of a session with anyone outside it, other than in an anonymous way with a supervisor  There maybe a very few exceptions-for example where there is the possibility of a client causing significant harm to themselves  or others.

Costs

There are costs associated with running the service – for training and resourcing, so we ask for a contribution of £45 for the session. If this should pose a problem for you please get in touch with us before your  appointment. Shorter appointments can also be arranged.
